چکیده

UNLABELLED We have developed the software CopyCat which provides an easy and fast access to cophylogenetic analyses. It incorporates a wrapper for the program ParaFit, which conducts a statistical test for the presence of congruence between host and parasite phylogenies. CopyCat offers various features, such as the creation of customized host-parasite association data and the computation of phylogenetic host/parasite trees based on the NCBI taxonomy. AVAILABILITY CopyCat and its manual are freely available at http://www-ab.informatik.uni-tuebingen.de/software/copycat. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION Results of the real-world example can be found at http://www-ab.informatik.uni-tuebingen.de/software/copycat or Bioinformatics online.

Current opinion Multi-host parasite species in cophylogenetic studies

Cophylogenetic studies examine the relationship between host and parasite evolution. One aspect of cophylogenetic studies that has had little modern discussion is parasites with multiple definitive hosts. Parasite species with multiple host species are anomalous as, under a codivergence paradigm, speciation by the hosts should cause speciation of their parasites. We discuss situations such as c...

SUICIDE PREVENTION Media coverage as a risk factor in suicide

A total of 293 findings from 42 studies on the impact of publicized suicide stories in the media on the incidence of suicide in the real world were analyzed by logistic regression analysis. Studies measuring the effect of either an entertainment or political celebrity suicide story were 14.3 times more likely to find a copycat effect than studies that did not. Studies based on a real as opposed...

Analysis of Methodology in Cophylogenetic Studies

Cophylogeny is “the study of the relationships between phylogenies of ecologically related groups (taxa, geographical areas, genes etc.), where one, the ‘host’ phylogeny is independent and the other, the ‘associate’ phylogeny, is hypothesized to be dependent to some degree on the host” (Charleston. "Principles."). One of the more common areas of cophylogenetic study revolves around the coevolut...

Zoom in iOS Clones: Examining the Impact of Copycat Apps on Original App Downloads

With the rapidly growth of mobile app market, a large amount of mobile app developers are encouraged to invest in app innovation. However, it inevitably invites other developers to imitate the design and appearance of innovative and original apps. In this paper, we examine the prevailing copycat app phenomenon and its impact. Using a combination of machine learning techniques such as natural la...
